Real Life

Real Life is an intergenerational group of people who are, open-minded and flexible, at various stages of their faith/spiritual journey, curious about God and the Bible, and unafraid to learn new ways to view each. We are from diverse places, careers, backgrounds and religious traditions, hungry for discussion that challenges the mind, spirit and pre-existing belief structures, respectful of differences in belief and opinion. We share a collective value of wanting to be (as an individual) better reflections of Christ in the world and we desire to build a community of peace and love at Grace and in Mount Juliet.

The Making of Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr

This book invites us to look honestly at Scripture, church history, and theology to better understand how ideas about women’s roles developed—and how the Gospel calls us toward freedom and mutuality.

Here’s a very brief overview of what we’ll cover each week:

  • Week 1 (March 1) – Rethinking Biblical Foundations: Chapters 1 & 2

  • Week 2 (March 8) – Women in Church History: Chapters 3 & 4

  • Week 3 (March 15) – Scripture, Translation, and Culture: Chapters 5 & 6

  • Week 4 (March 29) – Theology, Power, and Liberation: Chapters 7 & 8

Each session is designed for open, respectful conversation and welcomes people at all stages of faith and questioning. We hope you’ll read along and join us for thoughtful discussion. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate women’s history month!
